Is Your HOA Board Clueless?
I recently attended a board meeting where the members acknowledged they had never been taught what
their responsibilities where, how to conduct a meeting, or even how long their term of office was.
The previous management company had been happy to collect a check each month, but either didn’t want to spend the time to teach the board or were afraid of what might happen if the board knew what they were doing.
This is unacceptable! The partnership between an HOA board and the managing agent should be include both cooperation and accountability.
As a manager, I have a duty to advise the board on what the bylaws allow and don’t allow. Through cooperation, we work within those boundaries to make the Association financially healthy and to meet the needs of the community.
