Is Your HOA Board Ineffective?

It might not be their fault

Is Your HOA Board Clueless?

ineffective HOA board

I recently attended a board meeting where the members acknowledged they had never been taught what their responsibilities were, how to conduct a meeting, or even how long their term of office was.

The previous management company had been happy to collect a check each month, but either didn’t want to spend the time to teach the board or were afraid of what might happen if the board knew what they were doing.

This is unacceptable! The partnership between an HOA board and the managing agent should be include both cooperation and accountability.

As a manager, I have a duty to advise the board on what the bylaws allow and don’t allow. At least on the things that are plainly written. If something is unclear or complicated then I’ll contact an attorney. Through cooperation, we work within those boundaries to make the Association financially healthy and to meet the needs of the community.

If you are a board member for an HOA and you feel “lost” check out our blog post and video Why an Educated and Active Board is Crucial for HOA Management in Nashville, TN .
Also, feel free to give me a call at 615-255-2732 and I will be happy to answer your questions.
